Maria is the daughter of an artist and a scientist, born in the middle of a South American revolution where both her young parents found themselves locked up for their ‘dangerous’ views by the dictating military. Thus the search for change, freedom and independence started early.
She did both acting and dance as a kid and began theatre studies in Sweden but while employed in a big budget production at a state Theatre she felt disillusioned, the anticipated beauty was nowhere to be seen, and she left to London to explore the theatre world. There she found an unusual mix of Acting and Science, and after years of rigorous character and consciousness studies worked as an actress and director. In this process she did countless in depth text analysis and practiced both directors and production management skills 24/7. But as it was, she was just scratching the surface, she found it hard to accept many of the ways the industry behaved and couldn’t understand the often closed and somewhat spiked doors of the theatre world.
To somehow counteract this and to give artists an opportunity of experiencing another type of environment, she co-founded Sweet Entertainments, a British Production, Artists and Events Management Company. Sweet prides itself on its open nature and cutting edge approach. It has gone to explore fields not only in theatre by representing around 500 acts to date and running performance venues but has also worked as a platform for bridging art and technology. Sweet was a pioneer in web streaming theatre shows and live TV on the net, and produced a High Definition film festival for shorts and features. Sweet Venues won an award for its latest creative space, where a wide range of artists tried out new work in a supportive and relaxed environment. As a producer she has been in charge of 30-60 staff and volunteers every year since 2003 and liaised and accommodated for hundreds of productions and their performers.
Maria set up a range of training courses with Sweet in 2000 which are still running in central London. She has herself coached hundreds of people in both acting and life coaching since 1997.
In the production field what has made her happy and ticking is the individual interaction with staff, performers and the general public. She enjoys acting as a bridge to facilitate a space where individuals and companies get together, explore and create what they need in their lives and work. Maria noticed over the years that even though she was very good at facilitating the energy for a creative atmosphere and often opened new doors and relationships for others, she didn’t necessarily want to follow up the practical work, especially not the administrational work. It was then she realized that her true skill and passion wasn’t as a producer but as an inspirational facilitator, advisor, healer or coach – whatever you may call it.
Maria has also discovered a healing capacity which she has great help of in her work. She calls it an energy connection to open new windows of opportunities. It opens and allows people to tap into the vast power and consciousness which we are and helps them find their way. Maria has used this successfully with a variety of artists, performers and professionals in different fields. If you are keen to explore and move on from where you are it will be a powerful process, and no matter what it will give you a broader understanding about life and its wonders. Maria is now in the process of writing a book based on her experiences with her deaf born son, covering stories from the encounter with a silent world, to the introduction of sound after a cochlear implant. It examines the wish for understanding and being understood in a world that labels more often than explores its possibilities.
Maria’s new creative website called Extraordinary Worlds will go live in late spring of 2010, together with a range of artists and writers she is challenging literature, music and art online. Based on her story The Extraordinary world of Mi and Zu, the website will tell tales across dimensions of time and space.
Personal note:
‘I have never liked labels or rights and wrongs so I do not have a coaching system as such. I have taught and followed and studied many systems and beliefs but have found that my personality thrives in a flowing environment where all possibilities are open, labels and words are for me a tool to communicate with rather than the truth.’
